Plum Blossom Day Retreat

Why the Plum Blossom

In Chinese tradition, the plum blossom (梅花) is the first flower to open while snow is still on the branch. It doesn't wait for spring. It blooms quietly and steadily in the cold.

Winter carries a similar teaching. Nature slows down, draws its energy inward and rests before the next season of growth. The Plum Blossom Day Retreat invites you to do the same: step away from the rush, take stock of your year, release what you no longer need to carry, and let something gentle bloom in you.

Your Day

From 10 am to 4 pm, you'll move through a gentle rhythm of stillness, nourishment, movement and creativity with a small group of beautiful souls.

Welcome & Intention Circle
Arrive with a warm cup, meet your fellow guests and set an intention for the day.

Guided Meditation & Sound Bath
Settle into stillness with guided meditation, then rest as singing bowls carry you into deep relaxation.

Tamale Workshop & Shared Lunch
Spread, fill and fold tamales together while we talk and laugh around the table. While they steam, we head outdoors. Then we come back to share a warm, nourishing lunch we made together.

Guided Forest Bathing & Hot Tea
Forest bathing (shinrin-yoku) is a slow, sensory walk through the Northwoods, not a hike. When snow arrives, we may go on snowshoes. Afterward, we warm up indoors with hot tea.

Chinese Ink Painting (1 hour)
With guidance from Dr. Di Wu, you'll learn simple brushstrokes and paint your own plum blossom on rice paper. No art experience needed. Every brushstroke is a small practice of letting go of perfection.

Let-It-Go Fire Circle
We close around the fire, releasing what no longer serves us and sharing words of gratitude. In harsh weather, we gather indoors for a tea and release ritual.

A one-day retreat in the Wisconsin Northwoods with meditation, forest bathing, Chinese ink painting, a shared tamale lunch and a fire circle. Small groups of 6. All are welcome.

Schedule

As everyone arrives, we take time to settle in, get comfortable, and begin connecting with those around us. The journey starts here.
